Jane Canfield

Painting is what I do most days, and I love it. I hope this shows in my work. Every walk with the dogs, every camping trip or holiday is defined by what studies I bring back to start a new series. I am either drawing or painting or thinking about it.  My work has evolved and I hope will continue to. What is constant is my love of colour, and I strive to pare back what I see. Simplifying the landscape whether it be urban or the bush, and pulling and pushing the shapes to create an overall impression of what I have seen. At this point, I’d call my work semi-abstract tonalism. And I hope that like the Australian landscape, my paintings reveal more, the longer they are observed.
