Isabelle Devos

I am drawn to quiet and subtle landscapes where roads lead into the unknown and where the land has a sense of mystery. My work distills what I see in terms of form, light and colour in order to reveal the essence and beauty of that land. The mood that I felt at the time always imprints upon me and in my work I seek to offer a glimpse into the layered history beneath the surface, where nature and the human presence subtly intertwine. I am fascinated by the traces left behind—the hint of the past and of unseen narratives embedded in that land. The places that inspire me are those that anchor me to where I live—familiar places where stories take shape from memory and dreams. At other times, while traveling through unfamiliar terrain, I encounter scenes that spark my curiosity. I work to capture these fleeting impressions, translating them through a blend of observation, recollection, photographs and small studies. - Isabelle Devos, February 2025
