ALAN ROSE | GEOMETRIC PROGRESSION

Wednesday, August 2, 2023 - Sunday, August 13, 2023

Frances Keevil at Studio W - 6 Bourke Street, Woolloomooloo Wed - Sun, 10 am - 5 pm

I originally trained as an engineer, graduating from NAS (National Art School) in 2009. My practice has always involved precise three-dimensional geometric repetitions, employing blocks, tiles, grids or lenticular structures. I pick up the threads of the conceptual art, op-art and kinetic art of the 1960’s, which was less about the immediate expressionism of the artist and more about the mental state of the viewer. The works are intended to sit on the boundary between order and chaos. I encourage the viewer to see repeating patterns where there is only disorder, or to see disorder where upon closer examination it is discovered that patterns exist. It is in this moment of contemplation that the artwork becomes successful.
