Rhapsody in Pink In this piece, the flamingo’s vibrant plumage is on display, yet its most recognisable feature—the distinctive curve of its beak—is concealed. The bird is immediately present yet partially withheld. The title suggests exuberance and flourish, but the gesture of hiding introduces complexity. The pinks are unapologetic, expressive, almost theatrical, but something essential remains obscure. For me, this reflects a deeply human tendency. We curate what we reveal. We offer colour, confidence, personality, while quietly protecting the parts of ourselves that feel too vulnerable, too defining, or too exposed. The painting explores that tension between visibility and concealment; between performance and protection.
